Drug Library Management

Drug Library Management

Supporting materials developed by the All Wales Drug Library and SMART pump working group.

This page includes the national Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that have been developed to support local governance of drug libraries.

Background

In 2021, the All Wales Drug Library and SMART pump working group was formed to action the recommendations of the HSSIB report published in 2020, in particular the safe use of Dose Error Reduction Software (DERS) and implementation of drug libraries (DLs).

The membership includes Medicines Information practitioners, Medicines Management nurses, clinical engineering and medical device educators and trainers from all across Wales.

The aim of the group is to work together and share expertise and learning of drug library and smart pump implementation. Through our collaboration, we have identified gaps in the governance of DLs and have produced a series of national Standard Operating Procedures (see below).

You can also visit the NAMDET website for more information on DERS.

Standard Operating Procedures

The following SOP templates are made available for local adoption. If adopting these for local use, please acknowledge the work of the All Wales Drug Library Working Group.
