A key function of the WMAS is to answer medicines related enquiries from healthcare professionals within the geographical locality.
WMAS provides information to primary and secondary care healthcare professionals who work within the Cardiff and Vale Health Board. These include pharmacists, nurses and doctors working within NHS hospitals, local GPs, practice nurses and community pharmacists.
Types of Enquiries
Enquiries cover a broad range of subjects from dosage, preparation and administration of medicines on hospital wards, to identification of an overseas patient’s medication, from advice on the adverse effects of a particular medicine, to literature searches and critical evaluation of new or unlicensed products.
Answers are provided in a format suitable to the needs of the enquirer. This can range from a brief verbal telephone message to a detailed written summary. To submit an enquiry to WMAS please contact the centre on 029 2184 2251 or email welshmedicines.information@wales.nhs.uk.
